This course provides an overview of major theories of counseling with a special focus on gender, culture, counselor preparation, and case formulation strategies. Students will read about historical and intellectual foundations of major counseling theories while observing skills and techniques employed by practitioners representing various theoretical perspectives. Students will be encouraged to explore the major theoretical orientations and their own personal beliefs and values in an effort to deepen their understanding of counseling process and outcome. Prerequisite: none
